This is a lineart I submitted looking for critique and it cannot be used in any way.

The first joint tribute in the Princesses Project goes to the five girls of ‘Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon’, the live action version of ‘Sailor Moon’: Usagi Tsukino, Ami Mizuno, Rei Hino, Minako Aino and Makoto Kino. Also, with this tribute more than a half of the Sailor Moon arc is already done.

The live action is the most realistic of all the versions of this story – well, as realistic as a story of magical girls can be. Unlike in the original manga, none of them changes drastically when they become Sailor Soldiers (unless you take into account Usagi’s split personality, but her original self remains anyway) and their everyday matters (school, friends, family) are just as important in the plot as the life or death battles and the deliberations about the meaning of their rebirth instead of just disappearing.

‘Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon’ is an anthem about friendship, and not about any friendship, but that of the teenagers, those pure, deep links that become the center of their lives when trusting others no matter what is just the natural thing to do. It is also an anthem about self esteem, like more than a half of the children shows.
And it also belongs to that underappreciated category of the ‘series for girls’. Although I don’t like the fact that things ‘for girls’ exist (as I stated in [link]) it is also true that if a girl wants to find something like:
- a female role model,
- a female character that is more than a hair ribbon and a name
- a show with more than one or two female characters
- female characters different enough to each other
then that girl has to search in the ghetto of ‘series for girls’. Those series are also polluted by gender roles, so maybe she won’t find something good, but that is anyway her best option.

The five Princesses of this tribute were drawn separately, then coloured, cut with scissor and cutter and glued to a previously printed A4 version of BG Stock: School by ~ParlourTricks. I am not doing that again, I SWEAR – it was such a pain for a so-so result. Edit (11th August) – A second version of the work was made with a far better result: [link]

The girls were portrayed as civilians but with their Sailor Soldier poses and dressed in the colours of their battle uniforms. It had been a looooong time since I designed clothes for the real world. The idea was to make the five of them look like any – Asian – girl that you could meet in the street. Since it’s summer and here it is hot, hot, HOT, I put them in very fresh clothes; also, since their transformation items were bracelets on their left wrist (except Usagi’s), I put them something similar.

The third character to be drawn was Rei (Sailor Mars), the serious and tough girl with a soft spot for her closest friends. She’s dressed as a miko, or at least that’s what I tried.

See all the girls:

And all of them together: [link]

I’M LOOKING FORWARD FOR YOUR CRITIQUE AND YOUR CONSTRUCTIVE FEEDBACK :icongoldendaplz:
