Original Characters

Description

Tsuki, Mariko, Ame, Wrath and Kuroi belong to *CarnivalCorpse.

Alternative title: ‘Skirts, skirts, SKIRTS’.

Well, I felt like drawing something ‘light’ – not a Princess or anything, but something just for fun. I also wanted to gather some points, so I decided to join a contest and I found CarnivalCorpse’s drawing contest, and I thought it would be easy and I could stand a chance for once in my life as a drafter. As I was checking the references that *CarnivalCorpse listed there, this was the image that came to my mind. The idea was to portray the concept of original characters, as well as practicing with facial expression. The second thing was a fail ^^; but I think the first one went well, didn’t it?

Before anything else, I want to make a few things clear. Even though I know that it is not OK to automatically think about art thefts when dealing with users of bases, I think it is important to remember everyone checking this deviation that although all these characters (including *CarnivalCorpse’s avatar) belong to *CarnivalCorpse, this drawing is mine. I was the one who put the experience, the skill, the effort and the time on this piece, so I am the only one who owns its copyright. Characters can’t be copyrighted, only specific works featuring them, and I made this one.
So no one is allowed to make any kind of derivative work – including colouring and base-making –, nor to redistribute it in any website in which you’re supposed to upload things you did yourself or have copyright of such as deviantArt or Facebook among many, many others. If someone wants someone else to see this, they can link back here – it is not that difficult.

Now that things are clear, let’s go on with the drawing stuff.

As I said, the idea was to sum up the concept of original characters. I guess that I decided so for how much I miss my stories and all the dozens of original characters that live within them. I wish I could spend more time with them all.

I chose some of *CarnivalCorpse’s female characters because of their looks. I don’t really know too much about them – or just nothing at all – but technically I am in no position to assume that they are just dolls just because I wasn’t able to find anything that defined them as characters in the Internet, so I’ll go along with the ‘character’ thing.
You can find all the references I used in the contest’s journal that I linked to above.

From left to right, we have:

- Tsuki. In the references she looked like she was either out of it or serious. I chose serious, mostly because of my ‘practicing with facial expression’ intention. I designed for her an outfit (dress, bracelet and shoes) based on a picture in which she’s dancing.
- Mariko, the time traveler Lolita that likes birds. She’s the only one who gave me the feeling of facing an original character, so I had to include her. I hope her story is just as crazy and funny as she deserves it to be – although the ‘my parents are dead’ Mary Suish feature doesn’t keep my hopes on a comedic story up. Once more, I showed how much I suck at drawing animals, and particularly birds. I copied the dress she wears in her bio portrait – I just added her socks and a bracelet that goes with the dress.
- Ame. Her design is a great example of ‘simple is best’ – actually, she was barefoot, but I quickly designed her a pair of trainers to go with her ‘casual’ look. Somehow, she has a ‘main character’ air, so I put her in the middle.
- Wrath, a magical girl from a set based on the Seven Deadly Sins. The idea is not the most original ever (even I have a couple of magical girls’ teams based on the Seven Sins and the Seven Virtues), but her design is just brilliant, with a touch of the ‘simple is best’ principle. I added bracelets to her outfit, too.
- Kuroi. Honestly, she’s here just for the good of the composition – I needed five characters. I copied her dress from one of the references, but added her shoes and socks for a ‘casual’ touch and because I didn’t feel like drawing feet.

And below there’s *CarnivalCorpse as the one imagining all the other characters.

The drawing was rushed, so the anatomy suffered, but still I’m open for critique :meow:

Now, wish me luck in the drawing contest! :dummy:
